New Song Lyrics: "UNTITLED"

Greetings and Salutations to All my Kith and Kin and All the Ships in Outer Space:

Here is a brand spanking new song I just now composed.

It's "UNTITLED" on account of I can't think up a good name for it.

I might resort to calling it "MOON AND STARS" on account of there ain't no moon or stars mentioned anywhere in the song.

What do you think?

UNTITLED

Words and Music By:
John Robert "SAIGON" Mallernee

Thursday 30 March 2006

VERSE # 1
:

There's a land beyond the ocean.
There's a mountain in the sky.
Adventure's calling "Ever onward!"
There are wings I want to try.

Thunder rolls and lightning flashes
As the cold wind howls its song.
The elk and coyotes and the eagles
Beckon me where I belong.

CHORUS:

We're the hopes and dreams of ages
Of the ones who've gone before.
Will we please the God who made us
And go on forevermore?

God gave freedom to His children.
There is no need to despair.
Feel the rhythm of creation.
There is music in the air.

Feel the rhythm of creation.
There is music in the air.

VERSE # 2:

Mind and heart are fused together
As these words flow from my hand.
Driven by a spirit inside,
I am trying to understand.

So, I write what I am feeling,
Still not knowing what I'll say.
Thus, the rhyming turns to singing
With the music that I play.

VERSE # 3:

"Life's a stage and we are players",
As was said so long ago.
Men are strengthened by their struggle
Through their mortal to and fro.

Bad things happen and we wonder
Why would God let such things be?
We are children ever growing
As we learn to be like He.

BURBERRY POEM

Greetings and Salutations to All my Kith and Kin and All the Ships in Outer Space:

Here is yet another poem written about ME!

********************

BURBERRY POEM
ODE TO JOHN

Whenever I dress up in plaid,
It seems to drive the men, just mad.
I wear my kilts above my knees.
I'm old, but do just as I please.
Though women frown and turn away,
The men all ask "Come out and play".
They think I will, but they are wrong.
I wait instead, to hear your song,
For when I do, it lights my fuse.
You're my official Scottish muse.
A soldier who can play and sing,
Well - that is damn near everything
A Jewish girl like me could want.
I also like your nice big font.
So in my kilt, I sing your praise.
You brighten up my nights and day.
But now I must run off to work.
The landlord knocks, I feel him lurk,
And I have many bills to pay.
But I'll be back to hear you play
And dream of one more special thing,
In person, I will hear you sing.

So it won't get lost, I'm storing it in my YAHOO! briefcase and posting it on my blog.

Nifty, huh?

New Scottish Genealogy Resource!!!

My Fellow Clansmen:

Have you seen the latest episode of "TARTAN TV"?

Their web site URL is:

http://www.tartan.tv/

I just watched it today, and I taped it.

It was a special broadcast introducing ANCESTRAL SCOTLAND, a new genealogical resource.

Their web site URL is:

http://www.ancestralscotland.com/

I've now linked it to my blog, and I'm posting this message on my blog.

I'm also sharing this with relatives, some Internet discussion groups I participate in, and interested people with Scottish or Celtic ancestry.

Anyway, they talked about the HENDERSON clan and the research of the Mormons (MY church!).

Ain't that neat?

Can one of you possibly bring a TV/VCR to the Celtic Festival and Highland Gathering of Southern Maryland?

We'll also need a source of electric power.

If so, then we can show this tape in our booth, which everyone might enjoy.

If this can be done, then I can also tape a couple or more episodes of "TARTAN TV" between now and the Celtic Festival.

I thought I had transportation to the Celtic Festival, but the guy who is going says his vehicle is already full, as he's taking three other people.

I hate to ask one of you for a ride, because the Soldiers' Home is so inconveniently located.

Maybe I could pay your admission fee, or buy your gasoline?

Thank you.

Today's Date: "Remember Goliad!"

Greetings and Salutations to All my Kith and Kin and All the Ships in Outer Space:

Before the sun sets today (as I type this, it's already late afternoon), I just want everyone to remember the historical significance of this date, 27 March.

On this day, in 1836, the defenders at Goliad, under command of Colonel Fannin, as prisoners of war, were executed by order of Generalissimo Santa Ana.

This action, known as the Goliad Massacre, followed the fall of the Alamo, and so enraged the Texicans, that as they charged the Mexican Army at San Jacinto, they were heard to yell, "Remember the Alamo!" AND "Remember Goliad!"

Due to the massive demonstrations yesterday in support of illegal immigration, of which Mexico is the greatest offender, today's date carries special weight.

When I was a soldier stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, I had the privilege of touring both the Alamo and Goliad.

That is truly hallowed ground, made sacred by selfless courage and valorous blood.

I just wanted to remind everyone.

"Remember Goliad!"

Thank you.

Hymn: "COME, ONE AND ALL"

Greetings and Salutations to All my Kith and Kin and All the Ships in Outer Space:

Here is a hymn I composed quite a few years ago.

I don't remember exactly when I wrote it, but I think it was around 1975, when I was a soldier stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.

********************

"COME, ONE AND ALL"

Words and Music By:
John Robert "SAIGON" Mallernee

VERSE # 1:

Come, one and all,
And join in the song.
Heed ye the call
And be guided along.
Serve your God.
Hold to the iron rod.
The case for sin
Is groundless.
Praise the Lord
For His holy word,
His charity
Is boundless.

VERSE # 2:

No need to mope
With dispirited sigh.
Rejoice in hope
For glory on high.
Lift your face
And receive His grace.
He'll make your
Burdens lighter.
Constantly pray
As you follow the way.
Work towards a world
That's brighter.

VERSE # 3:

Have high desire.
Kneel and confide.
The spirit's fire
Casts weakness aside.
Strive to live
With love to give.
Hold forth
A helping hand.
Join in the fight
In defending the right.
With our Almighty God,
We'll stand.

CONCLUDE:

Join in the fight
In defending the right.
With our Almighty God,
We'll stand.

COMPOSED: 07 February 1975 in Copperas Cove, Texas

I have done it in church with a piano accompaniment, but I prefer doing this song while strumming simple chords on my guitar.

MILITARY POLICE

*********************************
*********************************
Greetings and Salutations to All my Kith and Kin and All the Ships in Outer Space:

In response to an inquiry about my experience with the 142d Military Police Company in the Republic of Korea, I submitted the following information, which may be of general interest, hence the reason for posting it in my blog.

********************
Jean wrote:

Could you tell me a little about your duties?

********************
I was never a regularly trained military police patrolman.

My military training, at that time, was as a Radio Relay and Carrier Equipment Repair Specialist, and I was assigned to the 307th Signal Battalion at Weon Ju.

Because I was due to soon be discharged from the United States Army, I requested training under the "PROJECT TRANSISTION" program, indicating my desire for a civilian career in law enforcement.

Thus, I was temporarily assigned to the 142d Military Police Company at Yong San Army Garrison, which is in Seoul, the capital city of the Republic of Korea.

My training was on-the-job police patrols, plus a night course from Los Angeles City College in "Justice Administration", where our text was the California Penal Code.

My actual orders were to "get in the car and do what he does."

I was further counselled that because I lacked experience and training, that I was to forget about rank and always obey the instructions and orders of the patrolman, even if he was only a private, since he knew the job and I was only learning.

That made perfect sense to me, and I was willing to work under those conditions.

********************
What does being an Army MP in Korea mean?

********************
It's just being a soldier, obeying orders, and doing your job.

Military police patrol Army posts and adjacent communities, doing basic police duties, the same as regular police officers do in civilian life.

In Korea, they even had a highway patrol, and a full time vehicle accident investigation team.

They also guard prisoners, supervise stores and supplies, and provide special protection when necessary for equipment or personnel.

Detectives, wearing civilian clothes, investigate misdemeanors and felonies.

Military police must frequently respond to brawls in bars and barracks, which sometimes might mean full scale rioting.

After all, this is the United States Army, where everybody is male, young, trained to fight, and hyped up ready to go, for whatever reason, real or imagined.

In Korea, we had rampant racial hostility between black and white, plus we had a massive drug addiction problem.

So, there's plenty of reasons for troops to want to fight each other, and thus, plenty of action for military police.

********************
Do all bases have MPs?

********************
So far as I know, all regular United States Army posts have military police units assigned to them.

By the way, the United States Army has "posts"; it's the Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force that have "bases".

For military compounds that are too small to have a regular military police unit stationed there, they generally appoint a "Security Patrol" from among the ranks of whichever unit is there.

It's sort of like guard duty, with the duty being rotated among personnel, so that sooner or later, everyone there will have a chance to do that job.

********************
What kind of training did you have to have?

 And how did someone qualify?

********************
Since I didn't attend the regular Military Police school, I really can't answer that question.

But, there is a school they have to go to.

When I was attending Signal School at Fort Gordon, Georgia in 1968, there was a Military Police school on the same post.

They even had a mock town set up, just like a Hollywood movie set, for riot control training.

I do know that prospective trainees are screened with psychological aptitude testing, and of course, must be physically fit.

********************
Is an MP considered an officer or enlisted?

********************
Military Police are organized the same as all other regular Army units, with commissioned officers, noncommissioned officers, and enlisted personnel.

********************
Did you patrol and police just Army personnel, or elsewhere?

********************
Army military police enforce Army regulations on Army posts and in adjacent areas, with the agreement and cooperation of those adjacent community officials.

In Korea, we patrolled in civilian areas, but with full knowledge and approval from the Republic of Korea.

In places like Korea, we have what is known as a "STATUS OF FORCES AGREEMENT", which protects American personnel, for when they are arrested by Korean police, American detainees are turned over to the United States Army for judicial process.

Likewise, Korean citizens arrested by United States military police are referred to local government agencies.

********************
Is an Army MP a respected/feared position?

What kind of authority did you have?

********************
Army military police have the same training and authority as civilian police agencies, but with more emphasis on war and combat.

Army military police are trained as infantry soldiers, and often function in that capacity, especially when I was in Viet Nam.

In my unit in Korea, some of the patrolmen had been trained as cavalry scouts, not as military police, but they were still deemed fit to do the job.

In war, such as Iraq and Afghanistan today, the military police provide escorts for military truck convoys, and they man roadblocks and inspection stations.

A friend of mine has a son now in Iraq, recently wounded and currently recovering, who is a military police sniper in the United States Marine Corps.

His job was providing security for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (i.e., "E.O.D.") teams as they defused roadside bombs, and he also provided personal security for visiting V.I.P.s, such as generals and politicians.

While on his third tour in Iraq, he was wounded by a roadside bomb while travelling in a Humvee with other Marines.

Fortunately, their armor protected them, and he will soon recover from his wounds and return to his duties.

In Korea, one of the MPs got into a shootout with some other soldiers, and he single-handedly killed all five of them.

At Fort Hood, Texas, a couple of soldiers robbed the main PX (i.e., the store) and shot the MP who responded.

Although badly wounded, he returned fire, killing both of them.

In Korea, as military police, we could travel all over Seoul all night long, without regard for curfew, by merely turning on the flashing blue lights and continuing to drive straight through Republic of Korean Army road blocks.

Anyone else would have been shot.

But, we just had fun!

It's great being an American soldier in the wee hours in a city like Seoul, wearing a loaded Colt .45, and driving a full-sized American sedan, with no restrictions at all.

Military Police are respected, feared, hated, loathed, and despised, depending on who you talk to, and which side of the law they are on.

The motto of the Military Police is, "Of the troops and for the troops".

They are soldiers whose job is to make sure other soldiers don't disgrace their uniform with bad conduct or dishonorable actions.

Of course, that cuts both ways, as military police are also soldiers and human beings.

When I was in Korea, several military police were arrested for using marijuana.

Some military police at Fort Bragg, North Carolina were arrested for dealing illegal drugs.

I have seen military police abuse prisoners and laugh about it.

That's life.

Good boys are trained to do bad things, and sometimes, things go too far.

That even happens with civilian police.

But, generally speaking, the system works the way it's supposed to, and most military police personnel turn out okay.

Here's yet another aspect you may not be familiar with:

Today, here in the United States of America, many military installations are guarded and patrolled by CIVILIAN uniformed patrol officers, who are employed by the Department of Defense Police.

They make it possible for regular military personnel to be available for service elsewhere, such as Iraq or Afghanistan.

These Department of Defense Police officers are armed and almost all are military veterans, with prior experience and training.

Depending on their duties, they may be required to obtain "SECRET" or "TOP SECRET" security clearances, since they have access to ALL areas of a military installation.

I hope I've answered some of your questions.

Thank you.

Greetings and Salutations to All my Kith and Kin and All the Ships in Outer Space:
I just learned something new today, and it's such a valuable resource that I'm linking it to my personal Internet blog and sharing it with everyone I can think of.
If you'll go to the FAMILY WATCHDOG web site and type in your street address, you'll see a map indicating which of your neighbors are registered sex offenders.
The URL for that web site is:
Different colors are used for different levels of offenders.
The homes of child molesters are indicated by red squares, and the homes of rapists are marked with yellow squares.
This map also shows where they work, what other residences they may be staying at, who the predators are, and what crimes they were convicted of.
Thank you.

Greetings and Salutations to All my Kith and Kin and All the Ships in Outer Space:

For the enlightenment of those who are unfamiliar with the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints (i.e., the so-called "Mormon" church), this message is written from the unique viewpoint of my peculiar chosen faith.

Further explanations can be obtained from official sources at this web site:

http://mormon.org/

However, as a caveat, you must realize that everything I am writing is my own purely personal speculation, and I readily admit my own sad lack of education and/or access to factual data.

I do feel influenced by inspiration as I write this, but that might be the effects of the pizza and fried chicken I ate at chow time.

While I may be guided by good intentions, I'm also possessed of a very mischievous spirit, which can take my rather inquisitive nature far afield from conventional wisdom.

I reckon if I don't wind up in Hell, it'll truly be a miracle of Divine intervention, huh?

I just finished watching a documentary on cable television's History Channel of "WARRIOR QUEEN BOUDICA", and it really got the wheels spinning within my brain.

Here is the web site URL for that program:

http://store.aetv.com/html/product/index.jhtml?id=75604

Here is the web site URL for the major Hollywood motion picture production of "WARRIOR QUEEN", the story of Boudicca:

Do you see the numerous uncanny similarities between American Indians, ancient Celts, and Israel?

In a previous post, I mentioned that I had read in a very obscure unapproved text of a theory that the word, "SAXON", indicates the children of Isaac, which is yet another description of the people of Israel.

Thus, when attempting to research the escape route of the "lost" tribes of Israel, that is one clue which historians can utilize.

Another is the name, "Dan", which can be found throughout Europe, such as Denmark, the Danube River, and the Don River.

While watching a late night evangelical telecast, I learned of a hymn still sung by the Dutch Reformed Church attesting the people of Holland are of the Tribe of Zebulon.

The official national symbol of Ireland is King David's harp, which according to legend, was brought to Ireland by the prophet, Jeremiah, who is reputed to be buried at Tara.

Neat, huh?

According to the "BOOK OF MORMON", another testament of Jesus Christ, many of the ancestors of the American Indian came from Israel.

So, when I was watching the documentary, I wondered about the Celtic tribal name, "Iceni", and surmised it might be a derivative of "Israel", due to the similarities in the sound of the first syllable.

Of course, the difficulty in trying to decipher something like that is that Gaelic, the language of the Celts, is an oral, not written tradition, so the proper pronunciation and spelling of virtually all Celtic nomenclature is only guesswork.

For instance, few can even agree on the correct spelling or pronunciation of "Boudica", "Iceni", or even "Celt".

In the Gaelic alphabet, the letter "C" is always pronounced as "K", and never as "S".

Thus, "Celt" is properly pronounced, "Kelt", and not, "Selt".

So, maybe "Iceni" should be pronounced as, "Aye-Kee-Nee", and not as, "Aye-See-Nee"?

If that's the case, then my idea of the first syllable of "Iceni" resembling the first syllable of "Israel" has no validity.

I observed that both ancient Celts and American Indians would paint themselves for battle.

Neither Celts nor American Indians wore trousers or armor.

The fighting tactic employed by both Celts and American Indians was the same, i.e., wildly screaming and charging their enemy.

Both Celts and American Indians, as was ancient Israel, were organized first by family, and then by tribe or clan, with no concept of state or nation.

Both Celt and American Indian continually exercised war and plunder as a normal way of life.

When the Celts went into battle, both men and women fought side by side, and although Hollywood and conventional public schools don't normally depict it, were totally naked.

Indeed, Roman soldiers were so terrified by the sight of naked screaming females, armed and painted, rushing straight at them, that the panicked Romans would throw down their swords and flee from the field.

According to accounts in the "BOOK OF MORMON", the ancestors of the American Indians went into battle, both male and female, painted and totally naked.

Professor David Yeagley, Ph.D. , a descendant of the Comanche, Bad Eagle, informs us that Comanche boys were taught their combat skills by their mothers.

Recently, the Cherokee Nation had a female chief, Wilma P. Mankiller.

We all remember the story in "THE BOOK OF JUDGES" of Deborah, an Israelite prophetess who led her army against the Canaanites.

Boudicca and the Iceni used chariots and horses as they battled the Romans.

Now, where did the Iceni learn to build and use chariots?

Did they merely copy the Romans?

Or was this a link to Celtic ancestors who migrated from Israel?

In the "BOOK OF LEVITICUS", the Children of Israel are given a specific commandment from Jehovah forbidding them from marking or piercing their bodies.

Since both Celts and American Indians indulged in this, it indicates that they each had either rejected, forgotten, or perverted their religious links to their Israelite forebears.

So, I am thus more and more increasingly intrigued by the possibilities of anthropological links between the American Indian (observe I do NOT call them "Native American"), the Celts, and ancient Israel.

Do you have any thoughts of your own regarding these observations and speculation?

You may wish to share my reverie with others.

If so, please be considerate and conceal the identities of multiple recipients, in order to preserve their privacy.

Also, instead of merely forwarding an e-mail, it's better to HIGHLIGHT, COPY, and PASTE the pertinent text into the body of a brand-new blank e-mail.

Thank you.

SOMETHING I CAN'T DO - - -

********************************
********************************
NOTE: This message was originally posted at the "OUR ETERNAL STRUGGLE" web site on Thursday 09 March 2006.
______________________

Greetings and Salutations to All my Kith and Kin and All the Ships in Outer Space:

Yes, born in 1946, I'm a bona fide member of the "Baby Boom" generation, and a little over a month ago, I observed my sixtieth birthday.

(You'll notice, I did NOT say "celebrate".)

One of my major disappointments in becoming sixty years old is that I'm no longer eligible to donate bone marrow.

Many years ago, I became a member of the National Marrow Donor Program.

A lot of years have gone by, but I was never asked to donate.

Now, I never will be.

It's especially disappointing to me because I wanted to try and copy Jesus, the Christ.

Jesus Christ suffered more than any mortal man could suffer, in order to save all men.

I'm not Jesus Christ, so I was hoping to endure just a little pain in order to save just one life.

But, it never happened.

So, I'm writing this e-mail in hopes that it might inspire others to do what I cannot.

If you're young enough, and in good physical health, please consider volunteering to donate your bone marrow.

Yes, there is some pain, but isn't it worth it?

On another subject, but somewhat related, the medical folks stopped letting me donate blood several years ago.

They think my medication might be hiding symptoms of a disease or parasite still unknown to medical science, acquired when I was a soldier in the old Republic of Viet Nam.

So, I can't donate blood.

That's too bad, for regularly donating a pint of blood is one of the healthiest things a man can do.

Each donation immediately lowers blood pressure and cholesterol.

So, I just rely on occasional severe nosebleeds to do the job.

When I get a nosebleed, instead of attempting to stop it, I step into my shower, turn on the hot water, and just let the blood run until it eventually stops on its own.

I figure that might help.

Did you know Attila the Hun died from a nosebleed?

I was watching a program on television and learned that death from severe nosebleeds is a lot more common than most folks realize.

Apparently, a lot of females are affected, because a side effect of plastic surgery restructuring a nose, is creation of an aneurysm, which can unexpectedly burst many years later.

I wonder if guys have that same problem, since we get into fist fights and get our noses punched and/or broken over and over?

So, if you haven't already been doing so, please donate your blood on a regular basis, and also sign up to donate bone marrow.

Also, if you have volunteered to be an organ donor at the moment of death, be sure to TELL someone, preferably your next of kin.

Just having the information notated on your driver's license is not good enough (or so I've been told).

It's on my driver's license and I've told everyone I can think of, whether or not they are related, that when I pass on, if any of my organs can be salvaged and harvested, then I definitely want them donated.

Who knows, but what YOU might save someone else's life!

Wouldn't that be super neat?

Thank you.
