"RIKKI-TIKKI-TAVI"

******************************************

Boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, it's time to watch a movie!

"RIKKI-TIKKI-TAVI",
by Rudyard Kipling
For the best effect, please be sure and enjoy watching, in "FULL SCREEN" mode, this automated video series of the full length classic Hollywood movie, "RIKKI-TIKKI-TAVI".

This was one of my favorite stories when I was a boy.

CSX CHOO CHOO

*****************************************
*****************************************

For the best effect, please be sure and enjoy watching, in "FULL SCREEN" mode, my homemade amateur video recording.

I had been shopping for goodies at Rouses Supermarket and was heading back to the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Mississippi when, while crossing the tracks at Anniston Avenue, I saw locomotive lights away off in the distance.

Oh boy!

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy ! ! !

This was EXACTLY why I had my camera in the cab with me!

So, I rather hastily spun that truck around (nearly colliding with oncoming traffic!) and headed over by the signal box to park, where I got out of the cab with my Kodak "Easy Share" Z710 zoom lens digital camera in my eager, but shaky hands.

Due to the brilliance of the afternoon sun, I was unable to see my viewfinder, and wasn't sure if the camera was recording or if my lens was aimed properly.

Anyway, here are two northbound CSX locomotives pulling a mixed manifest freight train from New Orleans, Louisiana to Mobile, Alabama on the old Louisville and Nashville Railroad tracks.

Oh, by the way, here's something a bit unusual which I thought was kind of neat - - - ;

Earlier, when I was driving to the store, I stopped at an intersection to wait for a traffic signal to change, and - - - ,

The Mississippi license plate on the back of my pickup truck (Mississippi only requires a plate on the rear of the vehicle) is a special plate featuring my award of the Bronze Star Medal.

The guy in the big sedan in front of me had a Purple Heart Medal license plate, while the guy in the white SUV next to me had an Air Medal on his license plate.

I thought that was kind of neat, the three of us there waiting for the light to change, each of us having the special license plate officially recognizing our military decorations.

The guy with the Air Medal (who also displayed United States Marine Corps decals) was quite excited, honking his horn, and waving his hand with a "Thumbs Up!" signal, as he shouted "Welcome back!"

Here at the Armed Forces Retirement Home, we have one resident (whom I'm not acquainted with) who drives a gray Mercedes with a Distinuished Flying Cross Medal on his Mississippi license plate.

How do you like them there apples, hey?

More good news - - - ,

Today, I switched my computer's Internet access from Cable One to Senior TV, which is going to save me a ton of money AND give me about a couple of gazillion television channels to watch, with many of them in High Definition.

Nifty, huh?

How in the heck did I get to be so well off?

OUR CHURCH AND THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA

*************************************
*************************************
Brethren and Sistren:

Please read the official statements published at the following web sites and tell me what YOU think.

01 - Please click here to read the OFFICIAL NEWS RELEASE of The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints (i.e., the "MORMON" church)

02 - Please click here to read the OFFICIAL STATEMENT of the Boy Scouts of America

03 - Please click here to read the PROPOSED RESOLUTION of the Boy Scouts of America
(To be voted on in May of 2013)

04 - Please click here to EXPRESS YOUR OPINION to the Boy Scouts of America

As for me, I see a danger of some wayward camel poking its snotty nose up under a loose tent flap, especially if naively sympathetic Scout leaders should ever clumsily mishandle delicate and/or embarrassing situations, when guided by their own opinions and/or personal desire for popular acceptance in our increasingly deviant and perverted contemporary society.

At the same time, I also agree that growing boys do go through perilous stages of confusion and discovery which will require dedicated moral influence by worthy adult mentors and juvenile peers.

Thank you.

"THE SOUTHERN SOLDIER BOY"

1863

As Recorded By:
BOBBY HORTON

VERSE # 01:
Bob Roebuck is
Her sweetheart's name.
He's off to
The wars, and gone.
He's fighting for
His Nanny, dear.
His sword is buckled on.
He's fighting for
His own true love.
His foes, he does defy.
He is the darling
Of her heart,
Her Southern soldier boy.

CHORUS:
Yo ho!
Yo ho!
Yo ho ho ho ho ho!
He is her only joy.
He is the darling
Of her heart,
Her Southern soldier boy.

VERSE 02:
When Bob comes home
From war's alarms,
They'll start anew in life.
She'll give herself
Right up to him,
A dutiful, loving wife.
She'll try her best
To please her dear,
For he is her only joy.
He is the darling
Of her heart,
The Southern soldier boy.

VERSE # 03:
If in battle,
He was slain,
She's sure that
She would die.
But, she is sure
He'll come again
To cheer her weeping eye.
But, should he fall
In this, our glorious cause,
He still would be her joy,
For many a sweetheart
Mourns the loss
Of a Southern soldier boy.

VERSE # 04:
She'll hope for the best,
And so do all,
Whose hopes
Are in the field.
She knows that
We shall win the day,
For Southrons never yield.
And when we think
Of those that are away,
We'll look above for joy.
She's mighty glad
That her Bobby is
A Southern soldier boy.

"THE MILITARY POLICE STORY"

***********************************************************
***********************************************************
Greetings and Salutations to All my Kith and Kin and All the Ships in Outer Space:

Military Police Corps
For the best effect, please be sure and watch, in "FULL SCREEN" mode, this video recording of an official 1953 United States Army film, "THE MILITARY POLICE STORY".

The video recording of "THE MILITARY POLICE STORY" was posted at the YOU TUBE web site on Monday 25 March 2013 by the NUCLEAR VAULT channel.

This film caught my attention because, in 1973, while serving as a Field Radio Relay and Carrier Equipment Repairman (MOS 31 L 20) in the 307th Signal Battalion at Won Ju in the Republic of Korea, at my request, I was sent to the 142d Military Police Company in Yong San for on the job training in law enforcement.

My formal training consisted of a class in Justice Administration from the Los Angeles City College, where the textbook was, "CALIFORNIA PENAL CODE".

My practical training consisted of, "Get in the car and do what he does."

In the film, they mention Camp Gordon, Georgia, but when I was there in 1968, it had become Fort Gordon, Georgia, where I would be a student at the Southeastern Signal School.

Right across the road from my barracks in Company "F", 3d Battalion, Student Brigade, was a mock Main Street where the Military Police School developed and rehearsed riot control techniques.

Please be sure and view the slide show of my photographs in "FULL SCREEN" mode.

The very first photograph in the slide show is of my Second Grade class at Ashiya Air Force Base on the island of Kyushu in Japan.

The second photograph in the slide show is of my own personal copy of the 142d Military Police Company's yearbook for 1973.

Nifty stuff, huh?

Thank you.

"COUNTDOWN AT WHITE SANDS"

******************************************
******************************************
For the best effect, please be sure and watch, in "FULL SCREEN" mode, this video recording of an official 1959 United States Army film, "COUNTDOWN AT WHITE SANDS".

The video recording of "COUNTDOWN AT WHITE SANDS" was posted at the YOU TUBE web site on Friday 22 March 2013 by the NUCLEAR VAULT channel.

This video recording brings back a lot of memories from my boyhood.

Daddy was a career master sergeant in the United States Army, and in 1959, we were transferred from Fort Bragg, North Carolina to William Beaumont General Hospital in El Paso, Texas.

I don't remember the exact year (probably 1960?), but we attended an open house at White Sands Missile Range, in New Mexico, on Armed Forces Day.

They handed out colorful photographs and fired some missiles to shoot down drone aircraft and/or other missiles.

Almost all of the missiles featured in the 1959 film, "COUNTDOWN AT WHITE SANDS", were shown to us and/or used for live fire demonstrations.

AND - - - ,

Because this particular blog post pertains to MY boyhood in El Paso, Texas - - - ,

Please be sure and watch, in "FULL SCREEN" mode, my homemade amateur video recording of ME (!) performing the Marty Robbins hit song, "THE BALLAD OF EL PASO".

REMEMBERING ANNETTE

***********************************************************
***********************************************************
Greetings and Salutations to All my Kith and Kin and All the Ships in Outer Space:

In the past couple of days, I haven't been paying attention to the news, so I was very shocked to learn that ANNETTE JOANNE FUNICELLO had passed away on Monday 08 April 2013 at age seventy (70) due to complications from multiple sclerosis.

As a boy growing up in Spring Lake, North Carolina, I remember watching her on the MICKEY MOUSE CLUB show each afternoon on our family's black and white television set after I got home from school.

For the best effect, please be sure and watch, in "FULL SCREEN" mode, my homemade amateur video recording of ME (!) performing my own version of Annette's biggest hit song, "OH, DIO MIO".

"OH, DIO MIO"

Oh, Dio mio, I love her so.
Oh, Dio mio, how will she know
How much I need her,
How much I want her,
How much I long for her love?

Oh, Dio mio, please hear my prayer.
Oh Dio mio, if only she'd care.
If she would love me,
We'd be in Heaven above.
Heaven above.

Each time I hear
The church bells chime.
I dream of her
And she is mine.

Oh, Dio mio, I love her so.
Oh, Dio mio, please let her know
How much I need her,
How much I long for her love.
Make her my love.

Another of her songs that I really liked was, "LONELY GUITAR", which Annette performed during an episode of the Walt Disney television series, "ZORRO".

At 1200 Hours Central Daylight Time (i.e., "High Noon") on Sunday 14 April 2013, the Memorable Entertainment Television (i.e., "MeTV") network featured a two (02) hour special tribute to Annette Joanne Funicello.

Here at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Mississippi, we view the MeTV network on WKRG-TV Channel 5.3, which is broadcast from Mobile, Alabama.

Thank you.

A VERY FISHY STORY

******************************************
******************************************
For the best effect, please be sure and enjoy watching, in "FULL SCREEN" mode, the video recording of, A FISHERMAN'S TALE, as reported by PETE THOMAS at the GRIND TV web site.

That video recording of the recent catch of two (02) largemouth bass at Lake Austin, Texas, by an unidentified angler, was posted Tuesday 02 April 2013 on the FIELD AND STREAM web site by Tim Romano, who said it had been sent to him by a friend.

It had previously been posted at the YOU TUBE web site on Thursday 21 March 2013 by the COASTAL BEND RODS channel.

Tim Romano wrote about the season heating up and the various methods being used by anglers, adding:

"You know it’s all good, and really warm weather is on the way, when Mister Bucket-Mouth starts chomping.

That's why I had to share this video one of my friends sent me the other day.

I’ve seen bass eat some crazy things, like birds, snakes, and obviously other fish.

But, this one has to take the cake."
