NATIONAL TARTAN DAY A "NO GO" ! ! !

****************************************
****************************************
IMPORTANT UPDATE ! ! !

I have just now received official confirmation from the HIGHLANDS AND ISLANDS organization that the career bureaucrats on the executive administrative staff of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Mississippi were forced by popular public pressure to CHANGE THEIR MINDS, and as a result, there WILL be a NATIONAL TARTAN DAY celebration at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Mississippi on Saturday 07 April 2012 from 0900 Hours until 1200 Hours.

Residents of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Mississippi are encouraged to invite their families to visit and participate in our NATIONAL TARTAN DAY celebration.

President Campbell, Et Alia:

Attached to this e-mail are three (03) photographs, in JPEG format, which I took of last night's monthly meeting of the Highlands and Islands held at Skeeter's restaurant/bar/pool hall on Tegarden Road in Gulfport, Mississippi.

I just now met with Sean Campbell, a recreational specialist employed at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Mississippi, and he says there will be NO celebration of National Tartan Day.

Instead, the administrative executive staff of the Armed Forces Retirement Home plans to have a multi-cultural event in the Summer.

Indicative of true "political correctness", the career government bureaucrats are obviously deathly AFRAID of showing "favoritism" toward one particular culture, lest somebody be offended.

Not only that, but Sean Campbell didn't even have the common courtesy to inform me of this until just now.

I don't know what we can do about this, but these folks deserve to be publicly embarrassed.

Accordingly, this e-mail will also be posted on my blog, "OUR ETERNAL STRUGGLE".

Well I guess this what happens when you get the federal gov. involved with anything it gets fubared. Of Course we are the wrong ethnic group to be recognized even though it was a Scot that wrote the declaration and 19 others that signed ir. It was a Scot that invented the telephone, etc... We are now pushed to the side once again by a gov. that is dominering and the sad part is there is a Campbell who has know idea of his heritage that is involved. As to what to do I would complain to the head of the organization or even contact the media I don't know what else could be done. We at this time will contact the people as far as pipe bands etc.... and cancel the event. The real sad part is wasn't going to cost anything to put this on as everyone was volunteering their time. We will not attend anything sponsored by the AFRH in the future we will also let it be known how we were treated.

John, maybe you should contact our congressional members. Seeing as it was a Ms Senator who helped to create National Tartan Day.

Good Morning,
While I am the person of contact, I was not the person who initiated contact with you regarding the event. Mr. Mallerne is a resident here at AFRH and was interested in pursuing to have the event here. It seems he may have extended commitment for AFRH thatwe were not aware of. Mr. Chambers has spoken with my supervisor, and I will get with her to see where we go from here. When approached with the idea from Mr. Mallerne, our initial interest was to incorporate your group into an event later this year celebrating all cultures. We would be unable logistically to celebrate each individually. I will be in contact soon.
Sorry again for the misunderstanding.

Sean Campbell,
All we needed from you was permission to do it we had, everything set up at no cost to AFRH or us; that being said I don't see what logistics you mean. So it was a win win situation. We had bands that were willing to play for free for the Vets. However, since you have no conception of your heritage as well as what Tartan Day is about we have canceled everything. We are not interested in a Multi National event as you put it. We are Americans first and Scots by heritage. We try to teach people, that are willing to listen about their heritage and what the Scots did for this country and the world. We do this every year at the Scottish Games and Celtic festivle we host in Nov. All we wanted to do was help some Vets of which I am one to enjoy a day with out them having to travel to do so. You have no apology to me but to the vets. that live at the home I hope you would at the very lease apologise to them.

Hi John. I was very sad to read your email. Then I got thinking about it and became mad. Do the administration people not realize that TARTAN DAY is a federally authorized day. It is a day that the government put aside to celebrate all that the Scottish have done for this country (and the world) It is unreal that they are so uneducated about their own history. John Paul Jones started the US NAVY and he was Scottish, URGGGGGG I can state tons of facts but I think you already know then. Do you think that maybe an immigrant from Scotland and also a 100% disabled American Veteran talking to then would help ??? I would be more than willing to try if, it might make a difference. Allison
