This photograph of Earth was taken from a distance of 393,330 miles away on board the European Space Agency's "ROSETTA" spacecraft by the OSIRIS camera.
It is part of a sequence of images taken every hour through one full twenty-four hour rotation.
The illuminated sliver is centered around the South Pole, with South at the bottom of the image.
