RAILROAD MAINTENANCE

This video was posted at the YOU TUBE web site on Sunday 27 July 2008 by "DH7409".

A Loram rail grinder rolls South along the Consolidated Rail Corporation (i.e., "ConRail") riverline in the Stoney Point/Tompkins Cove area of New York.

The reason for grinding the rails is because repeated traffic eventually warps them, and grinding is necessary to restore their proper shape.

Grinding rails is cheaper than replacing rails.

I gave this video a "FIVE STAR" rating, since it is such an unusual sight, and probably required a great deal of both preparation and effort to record.
