WASHINGTON, D.C. NEWSIES IN 1912

This is a photograph taken by LEWIS WICKES HINE after midnight on Wednesday 17 April1912, at "G" Street near Fourteenth Street in Washington, D.C.

These boys, ages ten, eleven, and twelve years old, had over fifty papers in their hands, and vowed they would stay until they sold out, even if it took all night.

The oldest said, "My mother makes me sell."
