VISITING MY FOLKS' GRAVES

As I drove from the Old Soldiers' Home in Washington, D.C. to the newly rebuilt Naval Home in Gulfport, Mississippi, which had been totally destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, I stopped enroute at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Spring Lake, North Carolina to place a national flag and a bouquet of flowers on the graves of my parents, Master Sergeant William Vincent Mallernee, United States Army (Retired) and Virginina Lee (Mapes) Mallernee.

"PRETTY IRISH GIRL"

***********************************
***********************************
Greetings and Salutations to All my Kith and Kin and All the Ships in Outer Space:

Do you folks remember the Walt Disney motion picture production, "DARBY O'GILL AND THE LITTLE PEOPLE"?

I just now checked the statistics at my YOU TUBE account, and "PRETTY IRISH GIRL" has just become the most popular of my recordings.

At that web site, I've also included a copy of the lyrics to all THREE (03) verses, so you can sing it, too.

Ain't that something?

Well, even if, at the moment, it is my most popular song, it's still less than two thousand people that have watched the video, so no, it ain't THAT popular.

As of Monday 11 October 2010, it's only number one in MY statistics on MY personal YOU TUBE channel, JOHN ROBERT MALLERNEE.

On the other hand, you have to consider that I'm an unknown amateur, this song wasn't professionally recorded in a studio, and nobody's ever heard of me.

But, it's still a personal thrill to see one of my recordings go to the head of my YOU TUBE list, even if it wasn't a song I composed.

If things go as they normally do, the songs I've composed probably won't become popular until many decades after I'm dead and gone.

Thank you.

"PRETTY IRISH GIRL"

From the WALT DISNEY Movie,
"DARBY O'GILL AND THE LITTLE PEOPLE"

VERSE # 1:
Have you ever seen the seagulls
A flying o'er the heather,
Or the crimson sails
On Galway Bay,
The fishermen unfurl?
All the Earth is filled with beauty,
And it's gathered all together
In the form and face and dainty grace
Of a pretty Irish girl.

CHORUS:
She is my dear, my darling one,
Her eyes so sparkling,
Full of fun!
No other, no other
Can match the likes of her.
She is my dear, my darling one,
My smiling and beguiling one.
I love the ground she walks upon,
My pretty Irish girl!

VERSE # 2:
Have you ever seen the morning
In Kerry or Killarney
When the dew is on the hayrick,
And every drop a pearl;
When the geese are talking Blarney,
And the thrush is singing Gaelic,
And standing in the doorway
Is a pretty Irish girl.

VERSE # 3:
When I'm parted from my Darling,
My sighs would sail a schooner,
And when I cannot reach her, sure,
My tears would turn a mill.
Since she cannot be unkind to
Any other living creature,
I think that she will marry me,
My pretty Irish girl!

REPORT FROM GULFPORT, MISSISSIPPI

Associated Press

GULFPORT, Mississippi

Doris Jones, retired United States Army, hunched over in her wheelchair, an American flag in one hand, and tears streaming down her face.

Doris Jones

"I can't tell you how I feel," said Doris Jones, one of about one hundred and fifty veterans who returned Monday to the new Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport.

"I missed it every minute we were away.

I missed the people, I missed the Coast, I missed my home."

After Hurricane Katrina destroyed the retirement home near the beach five years ago, residents were evacuated to the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C.

The vets evacuated from the building after the storm are the first to move into the new one.

Those arriving Monday were greeted by Miss Mississippi, a congressman, high school cheerleaders, and a bevy of young members of the military.

Each of the soldiers, sailors, and airmen was assigned to one of the veterans - - - they pushed wheelchairs and carried bags, walkers and oxygen tanks.

"I was here for Katrina," said Builder Second Class Daniel McCluskey, age twenty-three, stationed on the Gulf Coast with the United States Navy.

"I know what these people went through and wanted to be here to welcome them back."

Most of the residents rode out Hurricane Katrina at the retirement home, and were unhurt.

But flooding caused by the storm surge left cars floating in the parking lot, and residents weary and worried.

"The last time I saw most of these people I was trying to clean mud off enough chairs so they could all sit down," Lena Byrd, a hair dresser at the home for twenty-six years, said between shouted greetings and warm hugs.

"They are a very brave, very wonderful group."

The new facility, which can accommodate five hundred and eighty people in independent living apartments, or three assisted living areas, cost one hundred and eighty-five million dollars.

The building is lavish, especially compared to the one they left.

It has a library, movie theater, bocce court, bowling court, Olympic-size pool, fitness center, computer center - - - even a sewing room.

The old apartments were only ninety square feet.

The new ones are four hundred and fifty square feet and have a small kitchen.

All but three have balconies with a view of the Gulf of Mexico across the highway.

There is an elevated walkway to use if residents want to visit the beach.

"I feel like I've been set free again," said Marion Richie, age ninety-three, who served in the United States Navy.

"They were very nice to us in D.C., but you weren't free to go out the way we are here.

This is more of a small-town place, and I like that kind of atmosphere."

The desire to return was almost unanimous for those who left after Hurricane Katrina, said Jack McCormick, age eighty-seven, who served in the Army Air Corps in the Second World War.

"I know of only two people who didn't want to come back," Jack McCormick said.

"But my heart never left here."

The ordeal of the hurricane, the evacuation to Washington D.C., the wait, and even the emotional return seemed to have taken little toll on the group of elderly warriors.

Some even welcomed the entire event.

"I thought I had seen the last of my grand adventures," said Sid Land, age seventy-six, retired United States Navy.

"But then Hurricane Katrina came along and I had another great adventure."

ORDER OF THE CHIEF MEDAL

On Wednesday 06 October 2010, I drove to the Polo Grill in Lorton, Virginia to attend a dinner honoring Alistair Donald Henderson of Fordell, Chief of the Name and Arms of Clan Henderson.

I sang a couple of songs, including "TO ALISTAIR HENDERSON OF FORDELL" and "WALTZING MATILDA".

Our chief made me an honorary Australian, and he decorated me with a medal, the Order of The Chief.

"TO ALISTAIR HENDERSON OF FORDELL"

Chief of the Name and Arms of

"TO ALISTAIR HENDERSON OF FORDELL"

(CHIEF OF THE NAME AND ARMS OF
CLAN HENDERSON)

Words and Music by:
JOHN ROBERT MALLERNEE
Bard of Clan Henderson

VERSE # 1:
Comes October
Two Thousand Ten,
American Hendersons
Gather again.
From his home "down under"
So far away,
Chief Alistair,
Will come for a stay.
Raise high the banner
And strike up the band.
Our chief will visit
America's land.
There'll be dancing
And lots of food,
For our Henderson clan's
In a festival mood.

CHORUS:
Huzzah! Huzzah!
For our Chief,
We raise a cheer!
American Hendersons
Gaily rejoice,
For the chief
Of our clan is here.
The tartan that
We're wearing
And the sword blades
That we show
Pay homage to
Our great clan's chief,
For all the world to know.

VERSE # 2:
American Hendersons,
Gather you 'round.
The pipers will play us
A marvelous sound.
We honor the chief
Of our Henderson clan,
Welcoming here
This Australian man.
Sweet bonny lassies
Will sparkle and smile,
The laddies will
Boldly strut for a while.
They circle around
With the "VIRGINIA REEL",
Stepping to music
With toe and with heel.

VERSE # 3:
Auld Scot hielands
Are far away.
But, misty memories
Ever will stay.
Clan Henderson
Is ancient and strong,
Renowned forever
In story and song.
American clansmen
Are happy today,
For the chief of our clan
Is here for a stay.
And when he returns
To his Brisbane clime,
We Americans still
Will remember this time.

NOTE:
"My controversial and unpopular personal opinions are independent of my Scottish clan."

HOW RIDICULOUS IS JUSTICE?

On this blog, I usually just post opinions written by other folks, most of whom are a whole lot smarter than me, and who have the time and resources to devote to the luxury of writing original opinion pieces.

But, this here article is MY personal creation, one I wrote all by myself.

According to this ASSOCIATED PRESS news report, "STILL DEFIANT TIMES SQUARE BOMBER GETS LIFE SENTENCE", written by Tom Hays, the judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum, while sentencing Faisal Shahzad, an immigrant from Pakistan, to life in prison, stated, "You appear to be someone who was capable of education and I do hope you will spend some of the time in prison thinking carefully about whether the Quran wants you to kill lots of people."

WHAT??!!!

Of course, the Quran wants Muslims to kill lots of people!

That's what the Quran says, over and over.

Examine the history of Islam.

Why do you think Washington, D.C. and New York City were attacked on Tuesday 11 September 2001?

Faisal Shahzad is a good Muslim.

Janice K. Fedarcyk, from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, stated, "The sentence imposed today means Shahzad will never pose that threat again."

That's another idiotic statement, far removed from reality!

A sentence of life in prison is never a guarantee of anything.

That's why the death penalty exists, because it is a guarantee, if and when it's actually ever carried out.

(Actually, I'm opposed to any government agency imposing the death penalty, because of rife political corruption.

The death penalty should be done in public, in broad daylight, and administered by the victim's family, or the eyewitnesses to the crime.)

Which prison will Faisal Shahzad be transported to?

Has Agent Fedarcyk and/or Judge Cedarbaum never heard of a prisoner escaping from custody?

What about the possibility of an eventual commutation of his sentence, due to constantly shifting political sympathies throughout our society?

Has Agent Fedarcyk and/or Judge Cedarbaum ever actually toured a prison, and seen for themselves what actually occurs there?

(Many long years ago, I was employed as a Correctional Supervisor at the Utah State Prison.)

Although incarcerated, Muslim prisoners will get together, train each other, and collaborate on additional crimes, just as all other incarcerated career felons habitually do, regardless of their religious motivation.

Do you notice that in this case, both the FBI agent and the federal judge are female?

Personally, based on personal observation of current events, I think females should be barred from the legal profession, because they seem to have an inherently perverted view of what justice is supposed to entail, thus severely limiting their ability to face life's harsh realities.

Masculine and feminine natures are opposite, complementing each other.

But, in our contemporary World of social consciousness and "political correctness" (a satanic and Marxist concept), all of society has been compelled by government force, in blatant violation of the Constitution of the United States of America, to passively acquiesce to their own emasculation and feminization, resulting in total neutralization of traditional family units and distorting every facet of education, law, religion, and government.

Because it poses a threat to every American citizen, the religion of Islam should be outlawed in the United States of America, every Muslim currently in this country should be immediately arrested and deported, and our President should request a joint session of Congress to issue a formal Declaration of War against all Islamic nations and peoples.

Hey, I ain't got no education to brag about, and I ain't no expert on nothing.

I'm just an ordinary guy telling you folks what I think about all this stuff.

"OUTLAW TRAIL"

Let's all watch a movie!

This full length feature Hollywood motion picture production, "OUTLAW TRAIL: THE TREASURE OF BUTCH CASSIDY", is freely furnished through the generous courtesy of the HULU web site.

To view this movie in "FULL SCREEN" mode, please click on the little square icon located in the lower right corner of the media player.

Also, you'll probably want to turn up the volume on your speakers.

This movie takes place in the area where I used to live, quite a few years back, and for rather obvious reasons, it's especially recommended viewing for any and all Boy Scouts of America.

Boy, oh boy, all that scenery sure does make me feel sort of homesick for that good ol' "high lonesome" cowboy country.

So gather 'round your young'uns, send out for some pizza, snuggle up on the big comfy couch, dim the lights, and ROLL 'EM!!!

Pass the popcorn, please.

"WALTZING MATILDA"

Lyrics By:
ANDREW BARTON "BANJO" PATERSON

VERSE # 01:
Once a jolly swagman
Camped by a billabong,
Under the shade of a coolibah tree,
And he sang as he sat and waited
While his billy boiled,
"You'll come a waltzing,
Matilda, with me."

CHORUS:
Waltzing Matilda,
Waltzing Matilda,
You'll come a waltzing,
Matilda, with me.
And he sang as he sat and waited
While his billy boiled,
"You'll come a waltzing,
Matilda, with me."

VERSE # 02:
Out came a jumbuck
To drink at the billabong.
Up jumped the swagman
And seized him with glee.
And he sang as he shoved
That jumbuck in his tuckerbag,
"You'll come a waltzing,
Matilda, with me."

VERSE # 03:
Up rode the squatter,
Mounted on his thoroughbred,
Down came the troopers,
One, two, three.
"Where's that jolly jumbuck
You've got in your tuckerbag?
You'll come a waltzing,
Matilda, with me."

VERSE # 04:
Up sprang the swagman,
And dove into the billabong.
"You'll never take me alive!", said he.
And his ghost may be heard
As you pass by that billabong,
"You'll come a waltzing,
Matilda, with me."
