"A solid college education used to be the key to getting a great job in America and was a core component of the American dream.

However, the times have changed.

With the recession, the number of highly educated unemployed individuals has skyrocketed.

An education has become more of a financial burden than a stepping stone into the workforce."

However, regardless of any financial consideration, gaining knowledge brings growth, power, progression, and virtue, whereas mere ignorance is condemned as a sinful and slothful vice.

Within the sacred scriptures of The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints, we are counseled that, "The glory of God is intelligence, or, in other words, light and truth", and also, "And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this life through his diligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the advantage in the world to come".

Even if a formal university education is financially impractical in our contemporary market, we still have the use of good ol' fashioned individual initiative, creativity, books, libraries, the computer Internet, and/or gleaning nuggets of knowledge from peer counsel.
