MY DANISH BLOOD

*************************************************************
*************************************************************
Greetings and Salutations to All my Kith and Kin and All the Ships in Outer Space:

The parents of my biological mother, Hazel Irene (nee Albertson) Trueblood, (I was adopted by the Mallernee family), immigrated to the United States of America from "the happiest country on Earth", the Kingdom of Denmark, a fact which proudly makes my own blood officially fifty percent Danish.

If you happen to be driving on Interstate 80 through rural Iowa, be sure and stop in Elk Horn to visit the Danish Immigrant Museum.

Although, the Kingdom of Denmark today is a tiny little country, it once consisted of a great empire encompassing many lands throughout ancient ScandinaviaEurope, Russia, and the British Isles.

And NOW - - - ,

Boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, it's time to watch a movie!

For the best effect, please be sure and enjoy watching, in "FULL SCREEN" mode, this series of automated video recordings of, "TOURING DENMARK", which I found posted at the YOU TUBE web site on Friday 05 November 2010 by the RICK STEVES' EUROPE channel.

After you click to begin the media player, each video in the series will automatically play, one right after the other.

So, gather 'round your young'uns, pop some corn, send out for some pizza, grill some hot dogs, pour some frosty mugs of ice cold root beer, snuggle up on the big comfy couch, dim the lights, and - - -

Pass the popcorn, please.

No, unfortunately, I've never been to the Kingdom of Denmark, and it's highly unlikely I'll ever get to go there.

Thank you.

 "AS OTHERS SEE US"

First, there were the Scots,
Who kept the Sabbath,
And everything else
They could get their hands on.

Next, there were the Welsh,
Who prayed on their knees,
And preyed on their neighbors.

Then, there were the Irish,
Who didn't know quite what they wanted,
But, were ready to fight
For it anyway.

Finally, there were the English,
Who considered themselves
A self-made people,
Thus, relieving the Almighty
Of a dreadful responsibility!

"THE SCOTSMAN"

Mo Cinneadh Agus Mo Chairdean:

"THE SCOTSMAN"

Well, a Scotsman
Clad in kilt
Left a bar
One evening fair,
And one could tell
By how he walked,
That he'd drunk
More than his share.
He fumbled 'round
Until he could
No longer keep his feet,
And he stumbled off
Into the grass to sleep
Beside the street.

About that time,
Two young and lovely girls
Just happend by.
One says to the other,
With a twinkle in her eye:
"See yon sleeping Scotsman,
So strong and handsome built?
I wonder if it's true
What they don't wear
Beneath the kilt!"

They crept up on
That sleeping Scotsman,
Quiet as could be;
Lifted up his kilt
About an inch,
So that they could see.
And there, behold,
For them to view
Beneath his Scottish skirt,
Was nothin' more
Than God had graced
Him with, upon his birth.

They marveled for a moment,
Then one said:
"We must be gone.
Let's leave a present
For our friend
Before we move along."
As a gift, they left
A blue silk ribbon
Tied into a bow,
Around the bonnie star,
The Scotsman's kilt
Did lift and show.

Now, the Scotsman woke
To nature's call,
And stumbled
Towards the trees.
Behind the bush,
He lifts his kilt,
And gawks at
What he sees.
And in a startled
Voice, he says,
To what's before his eyes,
"Oh, lad, I don't know
Where ye been,
But I see ye
Won first prize!"
