Today, Tuesday 06 March 2012, is the one hundred and seventy-sixth (176) anniversary of the fall of the Alamo, the memory of which has set me to thinking - - - ,

What is it like to be a "furriner" growing up in another country, with a different culture, many thousands of miles removed from the United States of America?

What do them there "furriners" think of our United States of America?

Do people STILL want to emigrate to our United States of America?

Does the rest of the World's population STILL envy folks who live in the United States of America?

I wonder, because this country is now so much different than the United States of America that I grew up in, that it has become unrecognizable.

I wonder if folks in Switzerland and/or Denmark are better off than we are?

Well, teeming hordes of "wetbacks" from Mexico are still swarming into this country illegally, but that's because living conditions in their own native country are so much worse.

Or, is it?

Since the Mexicans and other assorted Hispanics rather obviously evince an aversion to learning to speak the English language and/or assimilate into Anglo-American culture, maybe it's all merely part of a more sinister plot to actually destroy our United States of America, by numerically overwhelming our population.

As a member of The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints (i.e., the "Mormon" church), these things really intrigue my curiosity.

Our faith teaches that the United States of America is the "Promised Land" referred to in our scriptures, the location of the Garden of Eden, where the resurrected Jesus Christ taught His gospel to descendents of Israelite refugees, and where it is prophesied that the "lost" Ten Tribes of Israel are destined to eventually come forth and gather.

According to the Book of Mormon, the United States of America is a land of freedom and wealth, blessed above all other lands, a land where no king shall rule, and so long as we worship the God of this land, who is Jesus, the Christ, we shall remain free and blessed beyond all other nations on the Earth.

"THE BOOK OF MORMON"
The scriptures and prophetic revelations of The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints also teaches that the Constitution of the United States of America is a document inspired by Almighty God, written by men whom God raised up for that very purpose.

But, on the other hand, we are specifically warned that if and when the people dwelling in the United States of America reject the God of this land, who is Jesus, the Christ, and turn away from Him, then we, the people of the United States of America will forfeit our blessings and our freedom, and this land will be given to another people who are more worthy.

Anyway, as we look at what's happening all around us today, what is to become of us?

Will a civil war be required in order to restore our lost republic, the unalienable rights of the individual, and our divinely inspired Constitution of the United States of America?

Will there also be a race war of extermination between the maliciously hateful American negroes and all other ethnic and/or racial groups who reside in our United States of America?

Have we, as a people, become too wicked, perverse, deviant, and ignorant to even be able to rely upon divine intervention from the Powers of Heaven?

Look, I ain't no kind of genius, and I have very little formal education, so you tell me - - - ,

What do YOU think?

"BALLAD OF THE ALAMO"

Lyrics By: PAUL FRANCIS WEBSTER
Music By: DIMITRI TIOMKIN

In the southern part of Texas,
In the town of San Antone,
There's a fortress all in ruins
That the weeds have overgrown.
You may look in vain for crosses
And you'll never see a one,
But sometimes between the setting
And the rising of the sun,
You can hear a ghostly bugle
As the men go marching by.
You can hear them as they answer
To that roll call in the sky:
Colonel Travis, Davy Crockett
And a hundred and eighty more;
Captain Dickenson, Jim Bowie,
Present and accounted for.
Back in 1836,
Houston said to Travis:
"
Get some volunteers and go
Fortify the Alamo.
"
Well, the men came from Texas
And from old Tennessee,
And they joined up with Travis
Just to fight for the right to be free.
Indian scouts with squirrel guns,
Men with muzzle loaders,
Stood together heel and toe
To defend the Alamo.
"You may ne'er see your loved ones,"
Travis told them that day.
"
Those that want to can leave now.
Those who'll fight to the death,
Let 'em stay.
"
In the sand, he drew a line
With his army sabre.
Out of a hundred and eighty five,
Not a soldier crossed the line.
With his banners a-dancing
In the dawn's golden light,
Santa Anna came prancing
On a horse that was black
As the night.
Sent an officer to tell
Travis to surrender.
Travis answered with a shell
And a rousing Rebel yell.
Santa Anna turned scarlet,
"Play Deguello," he roared.
"
I will show them no quarter.
Everyone will be put to the sword.
"
One hundred and eighty five
Holding back five thousand.
Five days, six days, eight days, ten;
Travis held and held again.
Then he sent for replacements
For his wounded and lame,
But the troops that were coming
Never came, never came, never came.
Twice he charged, then blew recall.
On the fatal third time,
Santa Anna breached the wall
And he killed them, one and all.
Now the bugles are silent
And there's rust on each sword,
And the small band of soldiers
Lie asleep in the arms of the Lord.
In the southern part of Texas,
Near the town of San Antone,
Like a statue on his pinto,
Rides a cowboy all alone.
As he gazes at the cattle
Where a century before,
Santa Anna's men were marching
And the cannon used to roar.
And his eyes turn sort of misty,
And his heart begins to glow,
And he takes his hat off slowly
To the men of Alamo.
To the thirteen days of glory
At the seige of Alamo.
Let the old men tell the story
Let the legend grow and grow
Of the thirteen days of glory
At the seige of Alamo.
Raise the tattered banners proudly
As the eyes of Texas shine.
Let the fort that was a mission
Be an everlasting shrine.
For they fought to give us freedom.
That is all we need to know
Of the thirteen days of glory
At the seige of Alamo.
Now, the bugles are silent
And there's rust on each sword,
And the small band of soldiers
Lie asleep in the arms of the Lord,

Lie asleep in the arms of the Lord.
