Reminder - - - Armed Forces Day

Comrades in Arms:

I just now received a reminder from my YAHOO! Calendar.

This coming Saturday 19 May 2007 is Armed Forces Day.

It's one of the days when military veterans are authorized and encouraged to dress up and wear their full-sized medals.

The fact that we are currently at war makes it even more patriotic.

Yet, due to the civilian administration and staff here at the Ol' Soldiers' Home, we residents haven't heard one word about this, and there's been no preparations for any observance or celebration.

So, it's up to us to inform each other, by word of mouth, and by e-mail.

According to our Soldiers' Home events calendar, there is a scheduled bus trip to Andrews Air Force Base to see the annual Air Show, which includes performances by the United States Air Force "Thunderbirds" precision flying demonstration team.

Of course, I won't be going along, because the last time I went on a bus trip from the Soldiers' Home, I got left behind.

Anyway, dress up in your Sunday best, and wear your medals.

You're our nation's heroes, and you earned 'em.

Thank you.
