 for Driving While Intoxicated

Police in Middlefield, Ohio told reporters at the PLAIN DEALER newspaper in Cleveland, Ohio today, that they are still baffled as to why James L. Gilkerson, age forty-two (42), of Andrews Road in Mentor On The Lake, Ohio, fired thirty-seven (37) rounds from a semi-automatic rifle at a pair of police officers after being pulled over at 1800 Hours (6:00 PM) on Sunday 10 March 2013 in the area of North State Avenue near Tare Creek Parkway for failing to stop at a stop sign.

Although wounded, the police officers returned fire, killing Gilkerson.

"He got of the vehicle, intending to kill my officers.

We don't know why he did it", said Police Chief Arnold Stanko.

The female officer, who had been hired one (01) month earlier, sustained serious injuries to her left hand and fingers, shrapnel was embedded in her right wrist, and she also sustained a gunshot wound to her left thigh.

The male officer sustained minor injuries to his left knee from flying fragments.
