There's a croft in the glen
And a lass that I ken,
With light from the hearth
In the gloam.
From the braes, I return,

And must do for my clan.
Wee bairns in the hame
Must be fed.

O'er Hielands, I gain
In the wind driven rain
Tae Glasgow
Or some other toon.
For a fine brawny lad,
There's jobs tae be had
Tae toil the hours through
'Til sundoon.

In muck and in dust,
I shall do what I must,
'Til I can wend hame
Tae my clan.
The lass that I ken
