"HIELAND MAN"

"HIELAND MAN"

Words and Music by:
JOHN ROBERT MALLERNEE
Bard of Clan Henderson

Wednesday 18 May 2011

There's a croft in the glen
And a lass that I ken,
With light from the hearth
In the gloam.
From the braes, I return,
And whilst wading the burn,
I wish I shan't
Far from her roam.

I'm a Hielander man,
And must do for my clan.
Wee bairns in the hame
Must be fed.
'Tis wages I yearn
Tae work and tae earn
Before I can
Lie in my bed.

O'er Hielands, I gain
In the wind driven rain
Tae Glasgow
Or some other toon.
For a fine brawny lad,
There's jobs tae be had
Tae toil the hours through
'Til sundoon.

In muck and in dust,
I shall do what I must,
'Til I can wend hame
Tae my clan.
The lass that I ken
At the croft in the glen,
Is waiting for
Her Hieland man.

I'm a Hielander man,
And I'll do for my clan.
Wee bairns in the hame
Must be fed.
'Tis wages I yearn
Tae work and tae earn
Before I can
Lie in my bed.

In muck and in dust,
I shall do what I must,
'Til I can wend hame
Tae my clan.
At the croft in the glen,
The lass that I ken
Is waiting for
Her Hieland man.

At the croft in the glen,
The lass that I ken
Is waiting for
Her Hieland man.

She's waiting for
Her hieland man,
And I love being
Her Hieland man!
