Comrades in Arms:
ATTENTION TO ORDERS:
Saturday 14 June 2014 is the Two Hundred and Thirty-Ninth (239) Birthday of the United States Army, officially authorized in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 14 June 1775 by the Continental Congress, with George Washington appointed as the first Commanding General of the brand new Continental Army ! ! !
I'm proud to say I have two (02) ancestors who served in that Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War for Independence, i.e., John Mallernee of Baltimore, Maryland, and Uriah Hawkins of Rhode Island.
In 1861 through 1865, other ancestors served on BOTH sides of the War For Southern Independence.
In fact, based on that, I enjoy pointing out the irony that history does INDEED repeat itself, for in the Eighteen Sixties, the North invaded the South, my ancestor fought for the South, and the South lost the war.
AAAAND - - - ,
In the Nineteen Sixties, the North invaded the South, I fought for the South, and the South lost the war.
My father, my stepmother, my biological younger brother (we were adopted by different families), and myself, have all four (04), honorably served in our beloved United States Army during a time of war.
Looking from left to right: My stepmother's awards, my father's medals, and my own decorations. |
As directed by Army Regulation 670-1: 30-6, Friday 13 June 2014 and Saturday 14 June 2014 are appropriate occasions for military veterans to wear their military decorations properly displayed on the breast or lapel of the coats of their civilian suits.
Here at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Mississippi, we will have an official United States Army birthday ceremony and a formal dinner/dance beginning at 1900 Hours (i.e., "7:00 O'Clock PM") on Friday 13 June 2014.
Thank you, and "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"
